Han Dynasty Method of I Ching

Also named Ching Fang's I Ching, The Time Space I Ching, Wang Wen, or  Fortune Teller's I Ching among other names.

This system is complex, I couldn't begin to make sense of it for you in this small review. It is the substance of entire books.

But maybe I can give a peak at it's parts.

For those of you who know the King Wen Latter Heaven Arangement , the Pa Kua above might look strange for its reversing the Li and Kan positions, placing north at the top position, instead of the more familiar "south at top".

Yet it's just an indicator of how different the many systems of the I Ching can be. For there's not just one system but many.

In fact the entire premise of this method stands apart from the more widley known and popular Chou Dynasty method.

For instance Hexagrams are not numbered in the same sequence as the Chou I, but are arranged into a "house order" based on the Pa Kua and a mathematical formula.

When this system is applied it's like seeing situations in explosive technicolor, rather than limited to black and white.

Han I has many "predictive components." including Yin Yang and their integration with Five Element cycles, family relationships created by Element interactions (Parent, Brother, Spouse, Child and Ghost or Official) 10 heavenly stems, 12 earthly branches 12 Zodiac animals, and specific times: the hour, day, month, year.

EXAMPLE

On the right is the 8th hexagram of the first house, the house of Metal, composed of Trigrams Heaven and Fire.

Each hexagram line has an Element and color associated with it.

Reading from the bottom

Black-Water, Green-Wood, Yellow-Earth

White-Metal, Yellow-Earth, Red-Fire.

Below are the zodiac animal and family relationship for each line.

Example: Let's look at the first line. The first line is associated with the water element. The Rat is the first animal in the 12 zodiac or the 12 animal cycle. It can represent the two hour period of from 11P.M to 1A.M. The rat is associated with bowel of the Gall Bladder and the GB's effect on health and illness.

According to Dr. Chang, before modern communications and technology, I Ching was employed to rule the nation. Even before sending envoys, the emperor already know the prevailing conditions throughout kingdom, and the character and capabilities of the officials governing there.

Today the Han I is more mundane and used to see your fate, personality, health/safety and relationships. It reveals allies and foes, chances for winning a court case, and a thousand other things.

What makes this a living system is it's integration with time:  It utilizes the Chinese solar-lunar calendar, the sexigenary counting system and Daily, Monthly and Yearly Energy Cycles as found in the Ten Thousand Year Calendar.

Serious study should inclued learning the entire system presented including Chi Kung or Nei Kung, I Ching, Face Reading and I Ching at the minimium.

Futher studies could include Feng Shwei, Accupressure, Herbology and Astrology etc.
